Lakes of Fire Regional Event Leadership Exchange Program

We’re looking for people who are already doing the work and want to do it even better.

You’re eligible if you:

    • Are an Event Lead, Coordinator, Producer, or Board Member
    • Or are stepping into one of those roles
    • Are actively involved in a regional or community-based event aligned with Lakes of Fire
    • Can provide one recommendation letter from a current event leader

You don’t have to come from a sanctioned Burning Man Regional to apply. We care more about:

    • Your impact
    • Your reliability
    • Your alignment with community values

We may follow up for additional references if needed. Nothing scary, just making sure this is a good fit on both sides.

Program Size & Tickets

This is an intentionally small, high-impact experience. Small group = stronger connections, better conversations, and more meaningful access.

      • Only 10 participants are selected each year.
      • You may bring a +1 guest (with prior approval)
      • Tickets are sold at standard event pricing (no discounts)

How to Apply

Application will remain open year round for consideration but will close for the current event cycle on or around June 1, or before the final sale of event tickets. Whichever occurs first. So don’t sleep on it!

What’s Expected of You

This is a participation-forward program. You’ll get out of it what you put in (and then some).

Show Up as a Leader
Come ready to represent your home event and engage with intention. You’ll be expected to follow the Lakes of Fire Code of Conduct and community standards.

You Won’t Be On Your Own
Our Volunteer Dream Team (VDT) will be your go-to crew for:

        • Guidance and coordination
        • Connecting you with departments and leaders
        • Making sure your experience is smooth and meaningful

Before the Event
We’ll help you get set up ahead of time:

        • You’ll be matched with a Department Lead for your shadow experience.
        • Introductions and expectations will be coordinated in advance.
        • You’ll know where to go and who to talk to before you even arrive.

During the Event

        • Shadow / Ride-Along
          • Complete 1 structured shift (minimum 4 hours)
          • Aligned with your leadership role or what you want to learn
        • Volunteer
          • Complete 1 additional shift (minimum 4 hours) in a department of your choice
        • Total commitment: 8 hours
        • Sit in on Leadership
          • Attend at least one Leads Meeting (as your schedule allows)
          • See how decisions are made and how teams collaborate in real time

Bringing a guest? We highly encourage them to volunteer too. Though not required.

After the Event
Once you’ve had time to process (and maybe sleep), we’ll ask you to share:

        • What you experienced
        • What you’re bringing back to your home event
        • What worked really well
        • Where we can improve

Think of this as the final piece of the exchange, closing the loop so the whole community benefits.

We can’t wait to burn with you!
