WEE EFFIGY PROJECT

This form is for the WEE Effigy Burn on Friday night and any additional small effigies that might want to be burned on Saturday after the main effigy burn.

The WEE Effigy Burn Information:

The Fire Art Safety Team (FAST) is continuing with the Wee Effigy Project, which was started in 2015. We all know how much everyone at LOF loves to watch things burn. We also know how daunting it can be to even think about building something to burn.

WELCOME TO THE MINI-EFFIGY PROJECT AKA WEE EFFIGY PROJECT

Friday night at North Beach, FAST will be setting up a burn platform (extra sand on the already sandy beach) that will be the showcase location of the WEE-EFFIGY Project.

The Wee-Effigy Project is open to anyone who wants to build an art piece and watch it burn. There are some guidelines but they are small, just like the project you will build.

GUIDELINES

  • All WEE-effigies must be built on a standard size pallet or of comparable size.
  • Pallet Size: roughly 42″ wide by 48″ deep or smaller. It can be no larger than a standard size pallet.
The pieces will be lifted using 2 metal poles slid through the pallet then lifted onto the burning coals of the previous piece. Similar to a forklift but using poles instead.
  • If you want to build your own base, that is fine by us. It must be able to have 2 heavy duty metals poles slide through the base so we can pick up the piece and move it over to the burn platform. Poles might be as large as 2 inches in diameter.
  • Height Maximum: between 3 and 4 feet tall. It can be smaller though.
  • Materials: These WEE-effigies are to be made out of wood or safe burnable materials. Please review the Burning Art Restrictions document to learn what kind of materials are allowed. The prohibited materials document is located here: Prohibited Materials If you have any questions, please email fast@lakesoffire.org
  • Weight: since the piece & pallet will be picked up using poles, we ask that you be mindful about how heavy your piece is.
  • Pieces do not have to arrive at LOF finished. You can build on site during the event.
  • LNT: Everyone who burns a piece is required to arrive on Saturday morning for a group cleanup of the burn platform. LNT starts at 10:00 am.

Burn Time: All projects must be at North Beach by 8:30 pm on Friday night. Burning of the projects will start around 10:00 pm.

Perimeter: Each project must provide 4-6 people to help support FAST’s perimeter team. FAST will train everyone on proper effigy perimeter procedures.

Showcasing Prior to Friday’s Burn: Your WEE-effigy project can either be showcased on the North Beach from Wednesday – Friday night or it can be showcased in front of your camp. Please remember that true to Burning Man spirit, there is a good chance your WEE-effigy will be decorated by others at LOF. If you wish for your piece to not be decorated (written upon, spray paint etc) you must make it very clear with signage. We can’t promise anything though.

SIGN UPS: We ask that everyone sign up at the FAST Wee Effigy Burn Sign up Sheet. Even if you are not sure if you will actually make a piece, please sign up so we can be in communication with you regarding this project.

This is an great project for those who want to try their hand at making something to burn and old burning veterans. This can also be a great piece for kids to get involved.

There is no limit to how many projects we can burn on Friday night… so BRING ON the burning WEE-Effigies!!!!

Any questions, please email fast@lakesoffire.org
