So You Think You Can Board?
You’ve done your shifts. You’ve built the thing, struck the thing, hauled the thing across a field in questionable weather.
Cool. Now what?
Now you find out what actually holds this whole beautiful chaos together: bylaws, budgets, and the sacred art of the agenda item.
The Board of Directors for GLEA (Great Lakes Experimental Arts, the nonprofit humans behind Lakes of Fire) has four open seats (one 1-year term and three 3-year terms) and we need burners who are ready to trade some of that MOOP-picking energy for spreadsheet energy. Because here’s the truth: this event doesn’t run on vibes alone. It runs on volunteers who show up for the unglamorous, unsexy, deeply necessary work of keeping a nonprofit organization alive between burns.
If you’ve ever wondered how the sausage gets made (or wanted to be the one making it), then this is your moment. Voting on policy. Wrestling with insurance. Actually reading the whole document before the meeting (we see you).
We are 100% volunteer-run. No one gets paid. Everyone buys a ticket, including every single Board member. We’re not doing this for money or glory. We’re doing it because we love this weird, dirty, radically self-expressed family and want it to exist for years to come.

So You Want to Build an Effigy
Good news, LOF community! The Great Galactic Garage Sale is coming to Luther next year, and we need YOU…to build the effigy!
Will it be someone’s old gym equipment you can climb on, but wood? A pile of larger than life dishes? Some sort of space junk marked down to a dollar? Will there be a rack of clothes someone’s grandma left in the attic for decades? YOU CAN DECIDE FOR US!
We’re looking for the wildest, silliest, craziest, coolest ideas your feverish brains can conceive. We have the budget and the resources – you bring your team, your concept, your plans, and your time to build something awesome. And then we burn it to the ground!

The crisp fall air always makes me think of beginnings rather than endings. It has been a time of warm drinks and warm fires, and for me that gets my creativity in full gear. Do the fall sights and sounds make you begin to plot and plan for the next year? If you start your creative cycle in the fall as I do, what are you working on?
