Lakes Letter-July 9, 2025

Reminders

The Lakes of Fire Community Survey is Here!

The moment has arrived – our 2025 Pre-Event Community Survey is LIVE!

Whether you’re packing your flippers for a swim in the lake or sitting this year out, we want to hear from you. This survey is open to all past, present, and future Lakes of Fire participants and will help guide improvements in leadership, safety, art, DEI (Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion), and the burner experience as a whole.

Your feedback is fuel for the flame. Let’s build the burn we want – together.

Help Keep Us Safe: Join the ESD Radio Dispatch Team!

Are you calm under pressure, great with communication, and a fan of organized chaos (the safe kind)? We need you on the Emergency Services Dispatch (ESD) team!

Dispatchers are the nerve center of our event’s safety operation. You’ll be the voice on the radio coordinating with volunteers in the field and making sure help gets where it’s needed—fast and clearly.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Receiving emergency radio calls and relaying info to field volunteers
  • Logging activity across multiple radio channels
  • Calling 9-1-1 and summoning Fire/EMS/Police if needed
  • Tag-teaming with your co-dispatcher so everyone gets food and restroom breaks

Requirements:

  • NIMS IS-100 certification (required for all ESD team members)

    • Get your FEMA SID number before taking the test

  • NIMS IS-200 is highly recommended for understanding smaller-scale emergency response flow

This is a crucial, behind-the-scenes role that keeps everyone safe. If you’re detail-oriented, level-headed, and ready to support the frontline from behind the mic—we’d love to have you.

You can take a look in Volunteeripate to see available shifts.

You Don't Have to Go Home But You Can't Stay Here!

EXODUS is 3pm on Sunday, July 20, 2025,  unless you have an Exodus volunteer shift or have talked to an Exodus lead. Make sure you check out the traffic map to ensure a smooth exit. An email will go out with more detailed information.

Here’s the lowdown on when you need to hit the road after your shift, depending on when you wrap up. Let’s keep things smooth, respectful, and sparkly-clean on the way out!

After 4 PMMonday by NOON

Monday Shift Wrap-Up = Monday or Tuesday Exodus

Artist Academy is Back at Nexus!

Hey there, creative creatures!

Get ready to dive into a world of hands-on magic at Artist Academy, happening daily from 10am to 6pm at Nexus! We’ve got an incredible lineup of artsy classes running throughout the week, and you’re invited to join in the fun.

How It Works:

Each class is first come, first serve and can hold 10–20 participants, so plan accordingly and come early if there’s something you’re really excited about. Most of our classes involve tools or materials, so we highly recommend that minors bring their favorite responsible adult along for the ride.

  • English Paper Piecing-Wed 2pm-4pm

GREETERS FOOD DRIVE 2025 ! !

Hey LoF Fam!

It’s time to rally that beautiful community spirit once again — Greeter Station is the one and only drop-off point for our annual Food & Toiletry Drive, happening all event long until 4 PM Sunday.

Last year, you legends donated over 800 pounds of food to the New Era Food Pantry. Can we beat that this year? We think so!

What to Bring:

  • Unopened, non-perishable food
(CANS are our BFFs — please, no glass)

  • Unopened, unused toiletries
(Shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant — all the good hygiene stuff!)

Where to Drop:

GREETER STATION — and only the Greeter Station!
We’ll be collecting all week long, up until 4 PM Sunday.

Let’s keep that generous energy flowing and show up BIG for our neighbors in need.

Got questions? Hit up the Greeters anytime.

Thanks, loves!

Pre-Event Volunteers: Read Before You Pitch That Tent!

Hey early birds!

We love that you’re eager to get settled, but a quick heads-up from your friendly Placement Team:
We can’t answer questions about specific theme camp sites until Sunday afternoon at the latest (though we’re often ahead of schedule—woo!).

Why the wait?

We’re still out there painting and marking the land to make sure everyone ends up exactly where they’re meant to be.

If you’re camping in:

  • The East End
  • Keyhole
  • Uptown or Downtown (opposite side of the lake)

You might want to hold off on setting up anything more than the basics for now. If you fully set up in an unmarked spot, there’s a chance you’ll be asked to move once we get everything placed.

Thanks for your patience and flexibility—it helps everything run smoother for everyone!

Stay tuned, stay kind, and we’ll see you around the Lake!

=LoF===)*(===LoF=

That’s a wrap for now—huge thanks to this incredible community for your energy, creativity, and heart. We can’t wait to see your smiling faces (and wild setups) around the lake soon. Until then, stay weird and stay wonderful!
