Lakes Letter June 26, 2025

Reminders

SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY ... FIRE SALE FIRE SALE FIRE SALE!!!

TL,DR: Remaining tickets will be sold Sunday June 29 at exactly 4:20pm (eastern time).  Log in to your Volunteeripate account a few minutes earlier, and click on “Register/Buy A Ticket” in the dropdown menu.

For more details, please read on!

Lakes Of Fire will hold a Fire Sale for all unsold tickets at 4:20pm on Sunday June 29 (eastern time).  Tickets are available in the Fire Sale on a first-come, first-serve sale, and are expected to sell out very quickly.

Here’s how it will work for the 2025 Fire Sale:

  1. If you don’t have a Volunteeripate account, sign up for one at https://volunteer.lakesoffire.org
  2. Sign the waiver if you haven’t.  You will not be able to buy unless you’ve done this!
  3. Any time after 4:00pm (eastern time!) click on the “Register/Buy A Ticket” link in the dropdown menu, and then click the green “Search for Tickets” button. You must be logged in by 4:19:59pm to participate in the first (and largest) round of Fire Sale offers.
  4. You will automatically be placed in the Fire Sale Waiting Room.  Once you see the “searching” icon spinning, DO NOT REFRESH THE page.  Refreshing the page will LOWER your chances of being selected.
  5. at 4:20:01 or so, lucky purchasers will be notified of an opportunity to buy one (1) ticket for LOF’25.  The ticket purchase must be completed within 1 hour, or it will be offered to a new purchaser.
  6. This process will continue until all tickets are sold. Further tickets may become available, should users decide to put their purchased ticket up for resale. Tickets may be available in this way until 7/17/25 11:59PM EST.

The Ticketing Team will be available in a Facebook Live Chat on the Lakes of Fire Facebook Page for questions and real-time updates.

FAQ

  • Do I have to have a Volunteeripate account to buy a ticket?
    • Yes.
  • Can I get a ticket for my child as part of this?
    • Yes. If you’re successful, you’ll be able to add your dependent minors, either during the purchase window, or later.
  • How much are tickets?
  • How many tickets are in the fire sale?
    • As of creation of this FAQ, about 160.  That number may change slightly (in the direction of fewer tickets) before the Fire Sale.
  • If I already have a ticket, can I buy another?
    • No.
  • Why are there unsold tickets?
    • This year, about 50 tickets weren’t purchased in the lottery.  Ridonkulous! The organization also holds back some tickets for art, critical needs, exchange programs with other global burns, etc.  If those tickets aren’t used by these programs, they end up in the Fire Sale.

Coming Soon! Help Shape the Future of Lakes of Fire

We’re gearing up to launch something exciting – and we want you in the loop.

Lakes of Fire is more than just an event – it’s a reflection of the people who build it. Soon, we’ll be sharing a community-wide survey to hear from everyone: first-timers, seasoned burners, and even those taking some time off.

Your insights will help event leadership, volunteer teams, and the RIDE (Radical Inclusion, Diversity, & Equity) Initiative set priorities, strengthen inclusion, and keep the fire burning in all the right ways.

Keep an eye out in the next Lakes Letter for the link to participate. Your voice matters!

Firewood, Fire Rings & Flaming Boundaries

If your idea of a perfect night includes a crackling campfire, here’s what you need to know:

📦 New Bulk Firewood Vendor:
Andrew’s Firewood and Tree Service
📞 (231) 730-5242

  • Full cord: $275

  • Face cord: $135
Note: All deliveries must be completed by 6PM on Wednesday, 7/16/25—plan ahead!

Want a fire pit? You must request one.
Fire rings will only be issued by request through DPW. No request = no fire ring.

Also, we love a good blaze, but safety first:
Your fire ring area must have at least a 15-foot clearance from anything flammable. If you don’t meet that standard, DPW will not place the ring. No exceptions.

Fire rings must be completely free of wood and ash before you leave.  Wood and Ash are MOOP!

Help Keep Us Safe: Join the ESD Radio Dispatch Team!

Are you calm under pressure, great with communication, and a fan of organized chaos (the safe kind)? We need you on the Emergency Services Dispatch (ESD) team!

Dispatchers are the nerve center of our event’s safety operation. You’ll be the voice on the radio coordinating with volunteers in the field and making sure help gets where it’s needed—fast and clearly.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Receiving emergency radio calls and relaying info to field volunteers

  • Logging activity across multiple radio channels

  • Calling 9-1-1 and summoning Fire/EMS/Police if needed

  • Tag-teaming with your co-dispatcher so everyone gets food and restroom breaks

Requirements:

  • NIMS IS-100 certification (required for all ESD team members)

    • Get your FEMA SID number before taking the test

  • NIMS IS-200 is highly recommended for understanding smaller-scale emergency response flow

This is a crucial, behind-the-scenes role that keeps everyone safe. If you’re detail-oriented, level-headed, and ready to support the frontline from behind the mic—we’d love to have you.

You can take a look in Volunteeripate to see available shifts.

=LoF===)*(===LoF=

That’s a wrap for now—huge thanks to this incredible community for your energy, creativity, and heart. We can’t wait to see your smiling faces (and wild setups) around the lake soon. Until then, stay weird and stay wonderful!
