Your Ticket to Open the Doorways Through Time
Michael Michael Sherwin Sherwin and Raptor were sitting in a hot tub in Raptor’s backyard on a frozen Midwestern evening, telling stories of stupid shit they’ve done at burns over the years. None of them involve golf carts. Nope. The hot tub shimmered strangely and began to change color —first purple, then blue, then green—and then it began to swirl. Raptor immediately knew what was going on. “Hey Sherwin—ready to get off our asses and do this again?” Raptor said with a smile. Grinning from ear to ear, Sherwin nodded in agreement. They knew it was time to deliver tickets to the thirsty participants. It was like a hot tub… time machine… most excellent adventure…not a trademark violation …portal. They disappeared with a pop.
When their vision cleared, they found themselves in a labyrinth of cosmic dust and towering grandfather clocks, where ancient ticket runes guarded the famous Volunteeripate portal. Walking over to an especially old clock, Raptor gathered a pile of cosmic dust. “Hey Sherwin, want to smell some of this?”
“No thanks, I’m trying to quit,” Sherwin replied with a wink.
Raptor took a deep breath, and for a moment his eyes sparkled with the wisdom of the ages. “Great Scott! I know Kung Fu! So-crates! I mean, Lakes of Fire Ticketing! Most Excellent!” Sherwin mimed air guitar.
Leaning on their years of expertise, they cracked the time code and unlocked the secret vault. Sherwin cautiously looked inside and yelled, “Hey Raptor—it’s bigger on the inside!” They gathered up the tickets, entered the Volunteeripate Portal, and flung the tickets like confetti in a cosmic parade. Each ticket granted entry to an event where creativity and radical expression know no boundaries of time.
That’s right fam, your ticketing team is unlocking the temporal vault for Lakes of Fire 2025: Doorways Through Time Edition! Prepare to swing wide the portals to possibility…
Beware the Ides of Temporal Transition!
- Volunteer tickets will materialize on 3/15/25, and you’ll have until 11:59PM ET on 4/15/25 to secure your passage. (Do your taxes, or don’t – I’m not your accountant, but definitely buy your LOF ticket).
- General Admission (Lottery) will appear on 4/19/25 at 4:20PM ET. (Mind the Ides of Quantum Weed!)
- Assemble your crew from every era and design your theme camp in the time vortex. Create an epoch that fuses the past, present, and future—a realm where time itself bends to your vision. Directed Theme Camp Ticket applications are NOW open and will close forever at 11:59PM ET on 4/6/25
- Need-Based Ticket applications are open now and will close 11:59PM ET on 3/9/25—let us help you navigate the corridors of time.
- We’re on the lookout for the 2025 Directed Theme Camp Jury, the Timekeepers who will score and rank your temporal masterpieces. Earn four (4) volunteer hours for your service—but remember, you can’t score your own camp!
Once again, without vamping:
- Needs Based Ticket Applications are open now and will close on 11:59PM ET on 3/9
- Directed Theme Camp Applications are open now and will close 11:59PM ET on 4/6
- Directed Theme Camp Program Juror Applications are open now will close 11:59PM ET on 4/6
Volunteer Tickets will go on sale 3/15 and close 11:59PM ET on 4/15 - General Lottery 4/19 at 4:20 PM ET.
Tickets will be sold through Volunteeripate once again. If you’re a returning traveler, double-check your account details and confirm your volunteer hours from last year are etched into the timeline. New to the journey? Click Create Account at Volunteeripate. Only one account per participant—duplicate accounts will vanish into the time vortex, and any attempt to game the system will breach our Code of Conduct.
The fabric of reality is stretched by rising costs – Based on our departmental budgets, the Board of Directors has determined that ticket prices will be going up slightly to $195 plus fees. Half Priced Volunteer tickets calculate to $97.50 plus fees.
Where we’re going, we don’t need roads. We all have our moments – and this one is called now. Here’s your invitation—step boldly into the unknown.

Planning for your Registered Vehicle
Planning for your Registered Vehicle
DMV offers four different vehicle permits on site for the community. Each will have their own unique form:
DMV offers permits for these vehicles, which move around the event.
- Mutant Vehicles
- According to the Burning Man DMV (“Department of Mutant Vehicles”), Mutant Vehicles are “‘art on wheels’: radically, stunningly, (usually) permanently, and safely modified motorized vehicles”.
- Art Cars
- According to art car artist and Art Car Fest organizer Philo Northrup, art cars are “street-legal vehicles that have been permanently transformed into mobile sculptures”.
- Accessibility Vehicles
- A vehicle for the specific purpose of transporting a legally handicap participant does not need to meet the Mutant Vehicle requirements. A handicap vehicle must still register and pass an on-site safety inspection.
- Small Vehicles
- Scooters, mopeds, hoverboards, and any other small motorized vehicle. Motorized bicycles/Ebikes do NOT require registration.
Once a ticket to the event is secured the Registered Vehicle owner fills out the appropriate Vehicle Registration form, located on the Permits and Applications page of Volunteeripate.. Upon acceptance of your application, you will receive a confirmation email. Form status can also be checked in your Volunteeripate dashboard under Your Forms.
NOTE:
To get on the mailing list to receive emails and news updates you must register in Volunteeirpate. To do this go to your account tab, select subscriptions, then choose DMV & Mobility.
Registering will put you on the DMV mailing list and you will receive a few emails with news and updates.
Upon arriving at Lakes of Fire proceed to your campsite and unload/setup your Registered Vehicle. Once your vehicle is fully operational, approved by other applicable departments like F.A.S.T. and Sound, drive over and park at DMV for registration. Your vehicle will then be inspected by DMV. DMV will then issue your vehicle a registration sticker and your vehicle will be ready to cruise.
