Reminders

Step Up, Show Up, Burn On

Imagine Saturday night at Lakes of Fire without the Effigy Burn. We don’t want to imagine it either, and we don’t have to, as long as our community comes through.

FAST is looking for volunteers to staff the perimeter for the Burn, and every single person counts. You’ll receive full training from the FAST team, and in return, you’ll have a front row seat to one of the most powerful moments of the weekend.

Sign up in Volunteeripate under FAST and make sure the fire lights up the sky Saturday night!

Transferring Tickets Outside of Volunteeripate

Buying or selling tickets outside Volunteeripate? Keep it
smart and drama-free:

  • Get the transfer FIRST, then pay. Ticketing can undo a ticket transfer but

Venmo and CashApp? Not so much.

  • Don’t go over face value. Max is $195. Discounts are cool. Markups are not.

Let’s not turn Lakes of Fire into some gross ticket-scalping circus.

  • Use the transfer portal when you can. You can grab tickets instantly there

or complete a direct sale through it. Fast, clean, done.

Ticketing loves you. Act accordingly.

Think Small, Burn Bright: The Wee Effigy Project

Big burns start with small sparks, and the Wee Effigy Project is proof that you don’t need to build a monument to feel the magic of fire art. FAST has been running this community favorite since 2015, inviting builders of all skill levels, including kids, to construct a pallet-sized art piece and send it up in flames on Friday night.

Guidelines are simple: keep it pallet-sized, under four feet tall, made of burn-safe materials, and light enough to be carried on two metal poles. Your piece can even be a work in progress when you arrive, just check in with the FAST team when you get to the event, and they’ll get you sorted on placement and timing. Sign up for more details and claim your spot in the fire!

If you have questions, reach out to fast@lakesoffire.org

Land and Event Updates

It’s a Map

Consider this map your first peek behind the curtain.  A work in progress that gives you a sense of what LOF 2026 is shaping up to look like. Everything is subject to change, so hold those details loosely while we keep building the dream. We’ll keep you posted as things come together, and a full map will be in your hands when you arrive on site.

Placement Update: We’re On It

Placement is in the thick of the placement puzzle and trying to honor as many requests as we can. Honest heads-up: this new land is hilly and wooded, and flat open space is the scarcest thing we’ve got. Not every camp will land exactly where, or next to whom, they hoped. Come in with flexibility and a little grace, and we’ll work with you to make your camp land well.

You’ll start hearing from us directly the week of July 6th.
One thing to flag now: some RVs and trailers will be able to camp with you, and some won’t. The terrain and grade make the difference, and in a lot of cases we won’t know for sure until we’re standing on the spot with you on-site. Plan for the possibility that your rig lands in a designated RV area instead of at camp, and register your camped vehicle (link in Reminders above) so we can plan around it.

Volunteers

We need volunteers in many CRITICAL positions! Sign up for shifts! We are 55% full. Volunteer shifts are filling, but we still have a long way to go. Many critical shifts remain understaffed, and Lakes of Fire depends on community participation to make the event happen.

If you haven’t signed up yet, please take a few minutes to check Volunteeripate and claim a shift. Every volunteer hour helps, and every filled shift makes the event stronger.
Don’t wait until you arrive onsite-sign up today!

Fire Rings for Theme Camps

As we settle into our new property, please note that there are currently no permanent fire rings available on site. To help support Theme Camps that would like to have a designated fire feature, Lakes of Fire is offering fire rings for purchase through Volunteeripate for $70 each.

Theme Camps that purchase a fire ring will have two options:

  • Take the fire ring home at the end of the event
  • Arrange for Lakes of Fire to store it for future use

If your camp plans to purchase a fire ring, please have one member of your camp use the add-on feature in Volunteeripate under the ticket tab.  Additional details regarding pickup, storage, and coordination will be provided to participating Theme Camps.

If you have any questions, please email Land@lakesoffire.org

Gray Water Collection

We’re pleased to offer a new gray water disposal option at the new property. The Org will have clearly marked 55-gallon drums available on-site for gray water collection. Participants may dispose of their gray water in these designated collection drums rather than packing it out at the end of the event.

Please use only the labeled gray water collection drums and help us keep the surrounding area clean. Additional information about drum locations will be available closer to the event.
As always, Leave No Trace principles apply. Please be mindful of what goes into the collection drums and help us keep our new home beautiful.

PSA: SHOES are a must!

A quick heads-up about getting around this year, our roads will be covered with chipped wood from debris clearing, which is a bit different from the finely ground playground wood chips you might be used to. We recommend wearing thick-soled shoes whenever you’re out and about on the roads to keep your feet happy and your adventures going strong.

Volunteer IDs (Lammies)

We’re preparing Volunteer IDs (Lammies) for the event! Your Lammie will be printed using the Preferred Name and Display Name listed in Volunteeripate.

Please log in and verify that both fields are accurate and reflect how you would like your name to appear on your badge. If changes are needed, please update your information in Volunteeripate as soon as possible.

A few minutes now can help avoid surprises when you pick up your Lammie onsite.

HELP WANTED: Professional Sitter & Paper-Pusher (Radio Dept.)

URGENT: Local Volunteer Org seeks enthusiastic individuals capable of occupying a chair and staring at plastic boxes. Are you looking for a role with maximum downtime and zero heavy lifting? Do you want to look like a high-tech communications officer while actually doing the work of a relaxed librarian? Look no further! We don’t have books, but we do have walkie-talkies, and we need you to hand them to people (and occasionally accept them back).

The Job Duties

If you have a pulse and a positive attitude, you are highly qualified for this prestigious position.

  • Extreme Sitting: (Or standing, if that’s your jam—we don’t judge).

  • The Swap Meet: Handing a radio to a human. Taking a radio back from a human.

  • Advanced Data Entry: Writing things down in a physical book using a pen.

  • High-Tech Maintenance: Popping dead batteries out; putting fresh batteries in.

  • World-Class Training: We will train you in less than 5 minutes. If you can read and write, you’re golden. If you can’t read and write, we will still find a corner for you!

Perks & Luxury Benefits

Why sweat out there when you could chill in here? Our compensation package includes:

  • Premium Climate Control: It literally never rains in the garage. Plus, occasional AC breaks!

  • Eco-Friendly: Significantly fewer ticks and mosquitoes than the great outdoors.

  • Upgraded Snacks: We can’t promise caviar, but the snack game will be elevated.

  • Family Friendly: Bring your baby to work day, every day.

  • Mental Stimulation: Ample time for puzzles, games, art, and looking like a tech genius by proxy.

  • Benefits Eligible: We aren’t entirely sure what the benefits are, but we promise they will exist.

Required Skills (Strictly Enforced)

 Applicant Requirements:

  • Must be able to read and write at approximately a 5th-grade level.

  • Must possess the rare mathematical ability to count past 100.

  • Must be comfortable occasionally interacting with other human beings.

  • Age-inclusive! Absolutely zero actual skill required.

Apply Today!

Don’t let this opportunity to do almost nothing pass you by. Inquire within and claim your shift before someone else takes the best chair!

Email radios@lakesoffire.org with any questions.

New Burner Event

Whether you’re brand new to Lakes of Fire, fresh to the Burning Man universe, or a seasoned veteran just looking to catch up on what’s new. We have an event made just for you!

Join us on June 28, 2026, at 2:00 pm for our new virtual New Burner Event, where we’ll walk through the Ten Principles of Burning Man and everything you need to know about Lakes of Fire specifically. There will be plenty of time for questions at the end, so come ready to ask away.

Can’t make it? No worries, the slide deck will be available after the event. Join the event here and reach out to greeters@lakesoffire.org with any questions!

Light Up the Night: Join Conclave

Before the Effigy lights up the sky Saturday night, the stage belongs to you! Conclave is our beloved fire-spinning performance that kicks off the evening, and we want to see your skills shine. Signing up is easy. Head to Volunteeripate to claim your spot.

If you haven’t taken the fire safety training yet, you’ll need to complete that before you spin, also available through Volunteeripate. Returning performers who completed training last year are all set and don’t need to repeat it, though you’re always welcome to brush up.

Come be part of the magic that sets the night on fire! If you have questions, reach out to fast@lakesoffire.org

Info_bot robot logo

In a few short weeks, we will all be coming to our new home to build the thing.  Make sure you are checking your gear, breaking in new shoes, and ordering anything that you might need.  Then show up, volunteer, and participate in the wonder of the thing we do every year.  See you soon.

If you’d like to contribute to event organization throughout the year, please apply here or reach out to a department lead. If you would like to sign up to transform this new property into our new home, then fill out this form. If you are not a skilled tradesperson, fill out the other slot and let us know what you can do.

If you’re not receiving the Lakes Letter (this thing!) in your inbox each month, consider signing up. It’s your best source to stay up-to-date on all the details. While you’re there, sign up for volunteering updates from individual departments if you’d like.

May the sunshine light your path and the stars be the glitter that brings sparkle to your night.

xoxo,
