Lakes Letter-March 31, 2026

Reminders

Trespassing, Just Don't Do It!

Guidelines have been created around who is allowed on the property and for how long, limiting who can go when. Everyone, including board members, event coordinators, and leads, must have the written consent of the board before setting foot on the property. This is for the safety of our community and of the organization.

Trespassers will be prosecuted and banned from the event.

Property Update From the Board

Hi everyone! Dan Dells here, your new Board Treasurer and co-lead of the Property Development Team.

I wanted to share an update on what’s been happening during our first month of property ownership. With winter still holding on up north, on-site work has been limited, but behind the scenes, we’ve been busy.

Here’s where things stand:

  • Parking lot: We’ve engaged a logging company to begin clearing space, and permits are in progress.
  • Water: We’re securing permits to drill a second well on the property, and we’ve received approval to convert the existing well to meet the needs of our event.
  • Roads & trails: We’re actively mapping out the road and trail network we’ll be building across the site.
  • Brush & trees: There’s a significant amount of clearing and trimming ahead to open up space for camps…and that’s where you come in.

We’re planning our first volunteer work weekend for mid-April, and we’d love your help. We’ll be drawing volunteers from those who’ve signed up through the Lakes of Fire Skilled Volunteer & Professional Registry. If you haven’t filled it out yet, now’s the time:

Once you’re signed up, keep an eye on your email for invites and details.

I’m also attaching our LoF Land Project Tracker! This is a living document that tracks everything we need to accomplish before July. It covers critical infrastructure like road loops, the second well, creek access paths, drainage, campsite clearing, and more. Think of it as our master to-do list from now until the event. We’ll be updating it regularly as work progresses and timelines firm up, so feel free to take a look and get a feel for the scope of the work.

I’m also including a link to a video of the property. Most of the footage is from the past couple of weekends. It’s starting to feel real out there. Can’t wait to build something incredible together.

A Note About Accessibility from DMV & Mobility Team

The DMV & Mobility team is committed to making this year’s event as accessible as possible for every participant. Whether you have a permanent disability, a temporary injury, or just need a hand navigating the terrain, we are here for you.

Our “No Questions Asked” Assistance Policy

We operate on a basis of radical trust. If you tell us you need assistance, we will believe you. We will never ask for proof or a reason for your request.

How to Request Support

Once you have your ticket, please complete the Mobility & Handjob Assistance form on Volunteeripate (Menu > Apply For a Form).

Continuing Services

    • Mobility Shuttles: We operate six 6-seat shuttles dedicated to providing rides across the event site.
    • Shuttle Stops & Walking Rest Stops: Benches will continue to be available throughout the event. Found both as official Shuttle Stops used as pickup points for our Mobility Shuttles, and community led resting stations near the front of theme camps and campsites.
    • Handjobs (Camping Setup/Teardown): Our Handjob volunteers provide the muscle. We can help you set up your personal camping gear when you arrive and assist with teardown when it’s time to head home.
    • Accessible Volunteering: Everyone has something to contribute. If you need a role that is seated, avoids heavy lifting, or stays in the shade, we will help connect you with a position that fits your needs.
  • Accessible Portos: Each bank of portos will continue to include accessible portos with access tiles to ensure smooth entry.

Stay tuned to the Lakes of Fire Newsletter for more information as it develops! If you have trade skills, certifications, professional expertise, or practical experience you are willing to share, we would be grateful to hear from you.

The snow is melting and the work is starting to take shape.  Transforming raw materials into a home takes time and dedication but this community has what it takes to get it done. See you all soon!

If you’d like to contribute to event organization throughout the year, please apply here or reach out to a department lead. If you would like to sign up to transform this new property into our new home, then fill out this form. If you are not a skilled tradesperson, fill out the other slot and let us know what you can do.

If you’re not receiving the Lakes Letter (this thing!) in your inbox each month, consider signing up. It’s your best source to stay up-to-date on all the details. While you’re there, sign up for volunteering updates from individual departments if you’d like.

May your nights be cozy and warm.

xoxo,
