Announcement: Lakes of Fire BIPOC Scholarship Program
2026 Pilot Initiative
Are you “burn curious,” but maybe unsure if it’s for you, or how to get in the mix?
You are not alone.
For many Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), attending a burn for the first time might sound exciting and maybe also intimidating. Questions about belonging, representation, emotional safety, and financial access are real and valid.
The Lakes of Fire BIPOC Scholarship Program is a new initiative created by the Radical Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity (R.I.D.E.) working group to help make participation at Lakes of Fire more accessible, welcoming, and supported for people who may not otherwise take that first step.
We are currently seeking two applicants for our 2026 pilot BIPOC scholarship program.
Scholarship Recipients Will Receive:
- One $50 event ticket
- One additional $50 “+1” ticket for a trusted support person
- Access to a camping gear lending library
- Support and onboarding through the R.I.D.E.Team
- Connections to rideshares, camps, volunteer opportunities, and community groups
- A curated list of welcoming theme camps
- A welcome/SWAG package
This program is designed to help reduce barriers, build connection, and support new participants as they explore the broader burn community experience.
Who Should Apply?
We encourage you to apply if you:
- Identify as Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color (BIPOC)
- Are a “burn curious” first-time participant, or returning after 5+ years away
- Are interested in community, creativity, participation, and connection
- Would benefit from additional support accessing the experience
Self-identification is entirely trust-based. No proof or documentation is required.
A Note About the +1
Each scholarship includes a second ticket for someone you trust like a friend, sibling, partner, or community member.
We recognize that entering unfamiliar spaces alone can feel overwhelming. The goal of the +1 is to help participants feel safer, more grounded, and more supported throughout the experience.
Pilot Year Information
For 2026, two scholarship recipients will be selected on a first come, first served basis.
Applications and additional information will be shared through official community communication channels.
We hope you’ll consider applying. We’d love to welcome you home.
