2027 Theme Voting Now Open!

Do you want to help shape the creative direction of every participant that plans to come to Lakes of Fire in 2027?  Of course you do, who wouldn’t want that kind of power.

All it takes is for you to cast your vote by June 20, 2026, at 11:59 pm, and your choices could help decide if we are going to design fairtayles or an apocalyptic wasteland.

It just takes a few clicks on this form, and you can help decide the fate of 2027.

PNinjas Need You!

Greetings from the shadows! PNinjas have risen from the depths of our chambers for some very important updates!

🎶 WE WANT YOU (bum bum bum)! We want you so bad!!! (bum bum bum bum) 🎶

PNinja’s are looking to still fill some critical shifts. We need the most support holding the borders from the invasion of deer, sheep and unwelcome humanoids:

  • Friday Night Late Shifts: roughly 10:30pm – 3:30am
  • Saturday Night Early Shifts: roughly 6:30pm – 11:30pm
  • Saturday Night Late Shifts: roughly 10:30pm – 3:30am (DOUBLE SHIFT HRS)

Saturday evening is chronically the toughest shift to fill, as well as the one of the toughest shifts to be on. The most local interloping occurs, the energy of the Effigy burn is fresh, and it’s the last night before we return to uncivilization. For these reasons we offer Double Volunteer Hours, which means your 5 hr shift, gives you 10 credited hours and a guaranteed volunteer ticket to next year’s burn! And yes… because you end at an unreasonable time, you will be allotted a late exodus being a rockstar volunteer.

ALL OF OUR SHIFTS CAN ACCOMMODATE ACCESSIBILITY ROLES

Most of our roles are kid friendly: Email Pninjas@lakesoffire.org to sign up your < 18 humanoid.

Hot off the press:

This year we have six new 2hr shifts called Assasstants (Assassin x Assistants): These roles are for everybody and anybody whether you are a rockstar volunteer or a well organized human that wants to learn about our department without getting your boots dirty. Available Shifts are:

  • Wednesday 1-3pm
  • Sunday the 19th, 3-5pm

Our department Co-Leads will be present coworking with new Assasstants. Wednesday Assasstants will be offered Tuesday July 14th Early Entry, Sunday Assasstants will be given late exodus for Sunday evening/Monday morning.

Nights Watch:

Every night when Gate closes, PNinja’s guard the entry stronghold with our longest offered shift from 11:30pm – 8:30am the next morning. You and up to 3 of your friends can all sign up together for a night of watchful and sober revelry. The accommodations at the gate will be provided for your use all night, which in the past included: generator, RV, portos, canopy, tables, chairs, and benches! This is a great time to socialize, play board games, and get to enjoy quiet hours of the burn while keeping our event safe from interlopers. Snacks, coffee and water will be provided. Department Co-Leads will be available for communication all night.

The current Night Watch hours that need filled:

  • Monday
  • Saturday (Double Shift Hours w/ Late exit

Shift Leads:

If you have volunteered as our Tactical Support Ninja in the past (aka Shadow Master aka Shift Lead) or you’ve been interested in the beginning steps of leadership or have been a trusted PNinja volunteer for at least 2-3 years, WE WANT YOU! Our shift lead position is mobility friendly as well! As shift lead, your role is to sign in and sign out all volunteers working during your shift hours, log important updates, check in with your foot soldiers and mobile ninjas (golf carts), and strategically distribute fluffing needs. The more serious side of this role is to be quick thinking on your toes when interlopers are found, or with emergencies. You will be working underneath PNOD (PNinja Of the Day) and the department’s Co-Leads to help assist and make executive decisions when needed. Every shift lead will have a Shift Lead Shadow, so if you are interested but want to learn the ropes, the Shadow role is perfect for you. The shifts are consolidated in volunteeripate as 2 shifts under one role, so please remember to tell us on site that you wish to be a shadow!

Our critical needs are:

  • Wednesday Early Shift: roughly 6:30pm – 11:30pm (best shift for learning and training in this role)
  • Friday Late Shift: roughly 10:30pm – 3:30am

Updates to the On-site Photo Policy

The Board of Directors has updated the Lakes of Fire photography policy, reminding everyone to ASK FIRST before taking photos and expanding some banned items.

Participants who refuse to remove their smart glasses will be removed from the event.

For the safety of all participants, some items have been banned from the event entirely.

Mark You Burn Calendar

Friday Night, 8:00pm at the Effigy – A DPW Masquerade Ball

Hear ye! Hear ye!

By Command of the Department of Public Works of Lakes of Fire, and under the benevolent patronage of the Society for the Preservation of Decadent Delights, thou art hereby summoned to a Grand Fancy Dress Masquerade Ball of unparalleled magnificence and genteel folly!

As the clock strikes the eighth hour, on Friday night, upon the Seventeenth Eve of July, in the Year of Our Grace Two Thousand and Twenty-Six, the doors of the effigy shall be flung wide, and candlelight shall dance upon gilt mirrors, whispering secrets of revelry and romance.

Let every person hide their identity behind their showiest mask, let them don their finest brocade; let everyone shimmer in silk and satin. Jewels must catch the eye, laces must flutter like sighs, and every manner of fan, and ribbon must proclaim: “I am most assuredly splendorous.”

Music of the harpsichord shall mingle with laughter; wine shall flow as freely as gossip; and those of adventurous spirit may even engage in a flirtation too daring for daylight.

To decline this invitation would be a scandal whispered through drawing rooms for seasons to come; to attend shall mark thee forever among the elect of taste and daring amusement.

With all grace, glitter, and gravity,
The Department of Public Works

The clock is ticking, and if you are like me, you haven’t even started that art project you thought about in December.  Have no fear, though, because whatever you can bring, even if it is just yourself, will be amazing.  Look forward to welcoming you to our new home soon.

If you’d like to contribute to event organization throughout the year, please apply here or reach out to a department lead. If you would like to sign up to transform this new property into our new home, then fill out this form. If you are not a skilled tradesperson, fill out the other slot and let us know what you can do.

If you’re not receiving the Lakes Letter (this thing!) in your inbox each month, consider signing up. It’s your best source to stay up-to-date on all the details. While you’re there, sign up for volunteering updates from individual departments if you’d like.

May the spring showers foster the growth creativity for all of the wonderful things you want to bring to the burn.

xoxo,
